How do I use the crossword solver?
Type the answer with a ? for each empty square. For a six-letter answer with C first and O third, type C?O???. Every dictionary word that fits is listed, everyday words first.
Can I search by clue?
Yes, for our own puzzles. Type whole words from a clue and the tool searches the clue bank behind our daily mini crossword (762 entries). It does not search clues from newspaper puzzles.
Does it work for cryptic crosswords?
It helps with the answer once you have letters from crossing words. It does not parse cryptic clues.
Why are some answers missing?
The list holds 152,368 everyday and rare English words of 3 to 12 letters. Names, phrases and long entries that crossword constructors use are not included.
What is the best way to get unstuck?
Fill in the short answers first. Three- and four-letter words give you letters for the long ones, and the crossing letters narrow a pattern fast.
